Last year we already explained what the Scratch Day was: a global event sponsored by the Masschusetts Institute of Technology in which are scheduled simultaneously more than one hundred meetings in different cities across the world. During them, kids share technological projects and experiences, and learn more about Scratch and the new ways of learning.

We also spoke about Scratch, a simple programming environment specifically designed for children, which allows to easily interact with the computer and learn how to program. With it, MIT initiated their students in robotics. However, this year, the School has gone further and has developed extra-curricular robotics workshops, and has implemented them as a compulsory subject during Reception. Besides, Stemxion, the company that coordinates these activities, has also established in El Corte Inglés.

Therefore, this year, in addition to Scratch Day -to be held on May 17 from 17:00 to 19:00 in El Corte Inglés placed in Avenida Andalucía- there will be a unique event for the students of the school on the 15th. During that day, Stemxion will celebrate activities with students from the different robotics workshops in MIT School, and also introductory Scratch workshops for all pupils. During these sessions, to be hold in the MIT facilities, participants will experience along with others and find solutions to improve their projects cooperatively.

On the other hand, the activities of the 17th, when all the family is encouraged to participate, will include:

  • Presentation of Scratch. How do you use this program and how can developed creativity in children.
  • Scratch Workshop, where children aged 8 to 12 and parents will learn how to use Scratch.
  • Programming competition and games.
  • Live connection with the events on other cities of the world.
  • Working session with educators from Stemxion company to develop proposals for the introduction of programming concepts to social groups unfamiliar to them.

Happy Scratch Day!
