The MIT School ex student Margarita Morata has become again winner of Europe, being the first person to do so for four consecutive times and, therefore, going down in history of world karate. The European Karate Championship Cadet, Junior and Under 21, the event that made her worthy of such honor, took place during the 7, 8 and 9 February in Lisbon, Portugal and counted on the participation of over 47 countries.
There, Morata won all her heats in emphatic fashion, and, during the final, she beat Turkey 5-0, showing that her technical quality is second to none. “She has started to write a story that will become a legend,” claims the national team coach, Lorenzo Marín.
Two other students from MIT School also participated in the major tournament, but despite their brilliant performance, they did not achieve the accustomed honors. Antonio García, who debuted in the U21 category, did an excellent job, winning in the first round against the Serbian representative, the 2011 European Champion; in the second round, he beat the Ukrainian representative, and in the semi-finals, he was defeated by the Portugese representative Da Silva, by a tight 3-2.
Meanwhile, Jessica Moreno, along with her teammates from the Female Cadet Junior Lidia Rodríguez (Madrid) and Rachel Roy (La Rioja), could not win the match against France, with whom they played the final in the last World Championship, losing also by a tight result of 3-2.
The School is specially proud of the performance of these high-level athletes, whose spirit of effort, perseverance, enthusiasm and sacrifice honors our institution. Congratulations to all for your results!
