Alumnos del MIT participantes en el GA Day

MIT participants in the GA Day

Educating is also training future citizens. Therefore, MIT School instructed a group of Secundaria and Bachillerato students to participate on Sunday March 11 at a session of the European Parliament. In the meeting, held at the Centro Cívico of Malaga, they defended a proposal on security and code of conduct on the Internet in a paper in English, for which they received congratulations from the organizers.

This session was part of the regional meetings organized by EYP (European Youth Parliament). The GA Days, as these meetings are called, last one day, during which schools in the region participate in a General Assembly defending  resolutions assigned to them previously. Thus, students show their maturity level both when defending a resolution that is foreign to them, but that they must make their own, and showing their ability to argue their views in public and in English.

The EYP works to achieve that the views of young people get to be part of the building of the future of the continent, promoting a European dimension that is not currently in their education. It also provides an opportunity for students between 16 and 22 years to participate in a forum without political connotations that invites them to be aware of the features and capabilities of other nations, to respect their differences and to develop interest in the democratic process and learn how to work for a common goal from an independent thought.
